Working together
The Ladywood Helpers are a small group of Ladywood charities, community projects, schools and local churches working together responding to needs in the Ladywood area of Birmingham during COVID-19 offering support, help and advice to families and individuals in the community. Organisations, churches and local schools include:
The Ladywood Project, Karis Neighbour Scheme, Baby Bank Central, Birmingham Central Foodbank, Suited for Success, Ladywood Money Advice, Ladywood Leisure Centre, Ladywood Councillors, St John and St Peter's Church, Gas Street Church, Church Alive, Birmingham Central Baptist Church, St John's and St Peter's Academy and other local schools also the Ladywood Housing Team. We are regularly in touch with each other to highlight any needs in the community that arise and work together to pool our resources to respond to the needs. Responding to needs
Ladywood has some of the highest statistics of child poverty and unemployment in the city. With schools now closed indefinitely many children will be without their free school meals which will put extra pressure on low-income families. Extra time at home also means more usage of gas and electricity, local projects who work with the elderly will need extra support.
From food parcels deliveries, supporting people in isolation, money advice, help, advice and signposting to other support services, prescription pick-ups to a simple friendly phone call or text to an elderly person or someone who may be self-isolating. These will be challenging times for everyone, the Ladywood Helpers are here to help.
Coronavirus crisis impact
Charities, community projects, schools and churches in the Ladywood area of Birmingham understand the impact that Covid-19 will have on the Ladywood community, especially those who are most vulnerable. In these unprecedented hard and uncertain times, we are working together to coordinate a collaborative response to support local residents through the coronavirus crisis.
Ladywood has some of the highest statistics of child poverty and unemployment in the city. With schools now closed indefinitely many children will be without their free school meals which will put extra pressure on low-income families., extra time at home also means more usage of gas and electricity, the closure of businesses will mean income loss for those on zero contract hours or even job loss. Also, the number of highrise flats and maisonettes means many isolated individuals including the elderly.
